Kingdom of Dunmoore
Cassandra was born in a mid-sized village, the daughter of a prominent militia general and small textile shop owner. From years of overhearing conversations and late night chats with her father, she became quite familiar with various aspects of military tactics and battle planning. During the days, she would work at her mother’s shop, learning to sew and run a business. When she wasn’t at the shop with her mother, Cassandra would spend time wandering around the fields outside of town, looking for flowers or interesting insects with her father’s dog, Maverick.
When Cassandra was around the age 10, her father’s militia was called off to defend one of the borders states from a goblin invasion which was pushing into the king’s lands. After few years of exchanging letters with her father from the front lines, her mother received a letter from head of the local militia, asking her and Cassandra to meet him at the militia hall. When they arrived later that night, Maverick eagerly greeted them at the door. Confused as to why her father’s dog was here and not on the front lines, she turned to question her mother, but her mother already knew the answer… Cassandra stood in the street confused as to why her mother had just broke down into tears and went running back to the house so she instead turned to the head of the militia for answers. As he explained that her father had been cut down in battle with the goblins, Cassandra felt herself starting to breakdown as well and took off like her mother. She knew she couldn’t go home, too many memories there, so instead she ran off to her favorite spot in the field and cried until she eventually fell asleep. When she awoke, she realized Maverick had slept by her side. As she was grasping for answers, she cycled through the various emotions of anger, grief and confusion. Eventually she decided she needed to be alone, and wondered off into the woods to search for her inner peace.
She wandered deep into the woods where she spent months surviving off the land. One day, while scavenging for berries, she encountered a tree that talked with her and through some persuasion, agreed to teach her the druidic ways. After a few years of training with the treant, she was told that she no longer needed it’s guidance and only had one final test to pass, she had to change her name to that of the forest. Excited to escape her past, she decided she would change her name to Astrid Farstrider. She thanked the treant for all of his guidance, turned and ventured off into the woods, looking for more adventures in the future…
